Helix Water District prepares to assume operation of Lake Jennings campground
|
The Helix Water District is pleased to announce that it will assume operation of the campground at Lake Jennings Park on January 1, 2009.
“The land and water at Lake Jennings belong to the Helix Water District. It makes sense for them to take it over," San Diego County Supervisor, Dianne Jacob told The San Diego Union-Tribune. "We're for whatever is in the best interest of the people who come to the lake and go camping. Here is an excellent water district with good managers who want to take over the campground.”
Helix has been preparing for the transition after preparing a master plan for Lake Jennings.
“We have a picture from the master plan," said Mark Weston, General Manager of Helix Water District. "Now it's just getting the funding to close the gap and get there. With Hugh Marx and his experience, we have an opportunity here. We decided we don't want Lake Jennings to be much different than what it is now, we want to add a couple more public areas for family gatherings. We want the fishing experience to be more comfortable with better concessions, better restrooms around the lake, but we're pretty much going to leave the lake the way it is.”
Before Helix assumes operation of the campground on January 1, 2009, camping reservations can be made online with the San Diego County Parks reservation system. If you wish to make a reservation for a stay on or after January 1, 2009, reservations can be made online with the Helix Water District's reservation system.
The campground at Lake Jennings Park has a variety of campsites available including hookups and primitive tent sites. A large group site is also available with terrific views of the lake and surrounding area. The campground is open year-round.
Lake Jennings Park campers are just a few steps from some of the best fresh water fishing in the County and beyond! Fishing is available from the shore below the campground seven days a week or by boat during regular operating hours. A fishing permit and license are required.
If you are looking for a great place to drown worms or just kick back, try Lake Jennings, the close-in lake that feels a hundred miles away.
