Lake Jennings is a drinking water reservoir making it's water level susceptible to water usage and management. There are times
when the lake water level will drop 20 to 25 feet. This low water period usually occurs yearly. In 2005 lake
management personnel decided to take advantage of these low water conditions and build artificial
structures and fish habitats in areas of the exposed lake bed. Rock piles and artificial structures were placed
in key areas of the lake. Fish habitats designed to encourage fish spawning and foraging were built.
Lake personnel documented all the structures and habitats by marking them on a map of the lake. GPS coordinates were
recorded for each area . Lake customers could then make use of this information to find more fish.
Once the project was completed, a decision was made to refine a map documenting the best
fishing areas on Lake Jennings. The map would include GPS coordinates to each area along with photographs
and narratives to form a fishing guide. This project was then incorporated into the Lake Jennings website
under the title of GPS Fishing Guide. As a result of the fine efforts of our lake personnel and volunteers, Lake Jennings
now has the distinction of being one of two lakes in the country to have a complete GPS Fishing Guide. The many hours of time and effort invested in this project will give our customers an extra tool to be
successful.
